A record 9 million GSM subscribers were added in January, putting aside any signs of a slowdown in the telecom sector in the country. With this the total count of GSM users in the country reached over 267 million. The figures don't include GSM subscribers of Reliance Telecom, a subsidiary of Reliance Communications Ltd .
Bharti Airtel, the country's largest telecom operator, which beat market expectations in its third quarter results, added 2.7 million customers, marking a 3.19% growth over the additions made in the previous month. Bharti also continued to hold the dominant position in the market with a 33.04% market share. The highest number of subscribers over 3.7 lakh was recorded by it in the Karnataka circle.
